Our Artisans

Pride and skilled craftsmanship go into the production of each of our items.

Most of our artisans work in rural communities where they have no easy access to basic needs.  Some live in areas located close to the capital but they can be dangerous areas to access.  They are very talented but have little opportunity to show their work.  It is our goal to give them the opportunity to share their art and to help them realize their dreams of a better life for themselves and their children.

Here's a little about some of the skilled artists behind each item:

Hurbano

HurbanoHurbano learned the art of carving Mate gourds from his grandfather.  He has worked as a carver for 25 years and today owns his own business employing various family members and neighbors.  He and his wife live in a house near the top of a mountain in the Andes near the city of Huancayo.  Theirs is an extended family household that includes Hurbano, his wife, brothers, cousins and their own children.  Hurbano and his wife finished high school but were unable continue their studies.  They have a dream of increasing their business and providing a better education for their children so they can have a better life.

 Edmundo

Edmundo is one of our textile artisans.  He lives in a rural community in the high Andes of Peru  with his wife, their three children, his sister and several cousins all contributing to the business of providing the best of woven, knitted and crocheted items for you. Edmundo's house has no easy access to transportation, technology or communication but this is not an obstacle for him!  Despite the challenge, he continues to increase his business and provide for his family through his art.
